The Heartbeat of the Virginia Beach Community

VB Rescue answers emergency calls for service in the City of Virginia Beach, working with our public safety partners to keep our community safe and healthy. 

There are more than 500 certified providers, both volunteer and career, who respond to more than 53,000 emergency calls on a yearly basis. Our trained and certified providers are dedicated to delivering effective emergency medical services to our community that save lives.

New EMS Citizens Academy

Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services is accepting applications for its first-ever EMS Citizens Academy. Participants will receive CPR training and earn their certification, learn First Aid and Stop The Bleed, have an opportunity to ride on a VB Rescue ambulance as an observer, tour the Emergency Communications and Citizen Services dispatch center and more. The academy will begin on Jan. 10, 2024, and run every Wednesday night at The Bruce W. Edwards VBEMS Headquarters and Training Center from 6-9 p.m., culminating in a graduation ceremony on Feb. 21, 2024.
