There are all sorts of reasons to volunteer with VB Rescue, whether it be to obtain free training and experience or to fulfill your desire to serve. 

You're undoubtedly excited and have have many questions. Please review the below information for a better understanding of our membership process.

There are all sorts of benefits to volunteering with VB Rescue. Those pursuing a career in the medical field will acquire critical skills and experience relating to emergency medicine, as well as necessary volunteer hours. Even those who aren’t interested in making this a career will find no better way to serve their community as a volunteer. Our volunteers are unique in that they provide an essential, emergency service to those in need.

Being a volunteer with VB Rescue means you will serve with one of the volunteer rescue squads of Virginia Beach. There are 10 volunteer rescue squads spread across the city, each with its own unique style and look. Visit our About Us page to learn more about the volunteer rescue squads of VB Rescue.

Application Process

  1. Review Membership Requirements - Before completing an application, please review the Membership Requirements page. These are legal and policy mandates which form the first step in the screening process. Additional links provide information regarding duty, training and performance expectations for all EMS and rescue squad volunteers.
  2. Submit Your Application - You will be contacted after reviewing your initial application to schedule a meeting with one of our membership coordinators. You should hear from us via email within two business days after you submit your application.
  3. Contact From a Membership Coordinator - Within two business days, a membership coordinator will contact you regarding your next steps in the application process and provide specific instructions on joining VB Rescue as a volunteer member. This will include submitting additional forms and how to complete a health screening. The membership coordinator will also advise you on completing initial online training.
  4. Approval by the Department of EMS - Applications are accepted and reviewed on a continuous basis throughout the year. The faster you complete the required forms and background checks, the faster the process will move.
  5. Recruit Status - Approved applicants will be notified via email. Once approved, a membership coordinator will contact each recruit to review pending items and to start getting involved. Recruits will be transitioned to a volunteer rescue squad shortly after being approved.

Instructions

  1. Visit the member portal.
  2. If this is your first time using the member portal, click Create Account.
  3. Fill in the form and click Save. Note: Fields marked red * are required.
  4. Shortly you will receive an email with instructions and your username and password to log into the member portal.
  5. Once you are logged into the Member Portal, click Applications.
  6. Click Apply Now for the VB Rescue Membership Application.
  7. Follow the instructions on the forms to complete and submit the application.
  8. In particular, when filling out your address, type in your postal/zip code and click the Lookup button. This will fill in your city, state, and county by postal/zip code, as you cannot enter those fields directly.
